It may not seem possible that a simple change in diet would be able to rid anyone from years of chronic pain caused by an inflammatory process, but nonetheless it's true. Our standard American processed diet has succeeded in causing many forms of disease and inflammatory diseases have a huge link to diet. The good news is a lot of the pain from inflammation can improve once a move to a whole unprocessed foods diet has been implemented for a significant period of time. It's just a matter of getting started. being patient and sticking with it.

Improving the inflammatory process by way of diet changes focuses on creating good prostaglandins. These are hormones that function by regulating the body's inflammatory response. We produce many of these low quality prostaglandins by way of low quality fats as well as processed foods. When we eat better quality oils and whole food we create good prostaglandins, hence creating less inflammation. In the following paragraphs I will outline some dietary changes that can be made to start moving forward toward a more pain free life.

Whole Not Half Grains- Steer clear of bread and cereal products that are processed and therefore stripped of most or all of the nutrition they started with. Baking your own whole grain bread is a great way to avoid things like dough conditoners and other additives that your body will find hard to process, resulting in inflammation. Eating more whole unprocessed cereal grains will be the way to go here as well. Always think "unprocessed".

Avoid Heated Processed Oils- Replace hydrogenated and heated oils with whole unprocessed, unheated types of oils. Anything that hasn't been altered. Extra virgin olive oil is a great way to go.

Oils to Include in Your Diet- Anything that includes omega 3 fatty acids found in cold water fish like mackerel, salmon, sardines, anchovies are all good sources of this nutrient. Nuts and seeds are other great ways to obtain omega 3 oils.
