In today's sociey, within the United States, the normal family size is considered a "family of four". Think about it. Any discount packages available for restaurants, amusement parks, theatres, and other family ventures are usually advertised towards families of four. To say the least, this proves that many parents welcome the idea of having a second child. The decision parents have to make is how soon they will conceive a second child after the birth of their first. It is common to see children 4-5 years apart in age, because mom needs a break from the baby stages and terrible twos of the first child. The truth is, it may be easier and more beneficial, in the long run, to raise back-to back children. Listed below are 5 reasons to have two children in two years.

Friendship/Companionship

Thinking back to my high school years, several of my friends (including myself), had siblings that were 4-5 years older. Although we all had the natural family bond with our siblings, we did not have the closeness with our siblings that others who were close in age, shared. Often, I fought with my sister, because I was looked at as being a tattle taler and really did not share common interests due to the difference in age.

If you look at siblings who are 1-2 years apart in age, you notice that many share the same friends, the same interests, and often look out for one another in social settings. Speaking of social settings, as toddlers children who are close in age often entertain one another with play, get a head start on building up their social skills, which in turn can give mothers a little extra lee-way in her daily duties.

Takeaways
  • Say goodbye to diapers, sooner
  • Say hello to your career again
  • Children closer in age will develop great social skills
