I Don't Care About Speaker Pelosi's Plane or Anna Nicole's Baby/Burial... Give Me Something Substantial!
Ranting About the Media and Its Inability to Focus on Issues of Importance

I am so sick of tuning in to the news only to hear the most insubstantial stories. Okay, I admit, I like a scandal every now and then, but come on - Anna Nicole is played out. Britney shaved her head - Oh the atrocity! Leave it to the scandal magazines! These stories don't belong in our headline news. The most important issue regarding our country - the war in Iraq - is largely being ignored by the news programs of the major networks. It has gotten to the point that if I want to hear the latest, I have to tune in to CNN. Now that's fine, I like CNN. But my point is as follows:
If it's a slow news day (as someone described to me must have been the day of the Anna Nicole news pounding... I'm not so sure.) tell us about the latest in Iraq. Our loved ones are over there, we want to know what is happening. And we know there is a lot, so give it to us.
Maybe the problem is that the channels don't have correspondents overseas. Are they too afraid to go? That's a possibility.
Or maybe they don't think we can handle the seriousness of the situation. Our troops are there living it, we need to know what is happening. If it's so gruesome that it shouldn't be shown on the television, that is all the more reason for the citizens of this country to make their voices heard.
Hmm... that could also be the issue. If we know too much, we will revolt. Are the government and the media in cahoots?
We already disapprove of your war, Bush. There is no saving yourself at this point. It's too late in the game.
I understand that we can't quite leave the soldiers untrained to defend their soil. But by now, there are enough of them trained to fight for their own country. If our guys need to stay over there, then let the ones there stay and keep training more Iraqis. There is no reason for us to still be losing troops each and every day.
We all now Bush is hard-headed and arrogant enough to send the troops anyway, even if Congress votes to stop funding. I don't necessarily think that vote by Congress would be the best thing our government can do for our country because, let's face it... we all know what happened in Vietnam.
