Career Fairs
These can be a virtual gold mine. Career fairs are awesome places to scope out possible employment. There are some things you can do to get the most out of them. First, make sure you arrive as close to the start of the career fair as you can. This way you'll be getting first dibs on speaking with potential employers. Plus, the fact that you are bright and early will give you a change to have a better conversation with them, which will cause them to remember you when they check out your resume. Speaking of resumes, make sure you bring a stack. No less than ten copies. You can bring some cover letters if you want, but those aren't as necessary. Why do you need so many, you ask? Because while at an info fair, you want to utilize all your options. For example, if you are a sociology major you may look for jobs that directly relate to your field. But then you may see a position that isn't directly related to your field, but fits your unique skill set. Leave your resume with them anyway. This is one of the best chances to reach out to employers with a minimum amount of hassle, so milk the opportunity for all its worth.
Career Services
Most colleges/universities have an office that assists with career skills. Utilize their resources. They are the ones that usually plan the career fairs anyway. Let them look your resume over and steer you in the right direction when it comes to finding the right job.
