My Classic 90's Music Album Review: "It's About Time" by SWV

From Whitney Houston to Christina Aguilera, the 90's Had Music for Everyone.

Released on October 27, 1992, "It's About Time," was the debut album for SWV or Sisters with Voices. The album's first single, "Right Here," reached No.13 on the R&B charts. "I'm So Into You," reached No.2 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Singles & Tracks and No.10 on The Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No.6. "Weak," the third single, reached No.1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles &Tracks and The Billboard Hot 100. Success came fast and furious. This incredible group sold more than 15 million albums worldwide, including 27 million singles.

Hailing from New York, SWV was signed to RCA Records, after producer Teddy Riley, formerly of Guy, listened to their five-song demo. Made up of three school friends, Cheryl "Coko" Clemons; Tamara "Taj" Johnson-George; and Leanne "Lelee" Lyons; SWV formed their Grammy-award nominated group in 1990. Their musical genre consisted of R&B, new jack swing, hip hop, soul, pop, and dance. According to Wikipedia, SWV is the third highest selling R&B girl group in the world.

The album went double platinum and, in 1993, SWV earned 11 Billboard Music Award nominations. In October 2004, "I'm So Into You" appeared in the popular video game, "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas." It played on fictional New Jack Swing radio station CSR 103.9.

In 2008, Producer Brian Alexander Morgan announced plans to re-release the album. Included in this re-release would be six unreleased songs.
