Don't expect the Cardinals to go back to the Super Bowl after the 2009 NFL season. They got hot and played the right teams at the right time before getting beat by the Steelers. Their defense is average at best and don't expect Kurt Warner and the gang to sneak up on anybody this season. But you never know and a few moves would improve this team quite a bit.
The keys to the 2009 season for the Cardinals are simple. Add a starting quality running back and keep Anquan Boldin happy. Edgerrin James had a good playoff run but has been begging for his release. Tim Hightower is a goal line, short yardage role back at best. The Cardinals need to add a good every down running back that can catch the football. Anquan Boldin who is possibly the toughest wide receiver in the league and one of the best wants a new contract. If he is unhappy the distraction to the team could be devastating.
The Cardinals need help in all areas of defense, most notably on the defensive line. A good pass rushing end and a run stopping tackle would work wonders for the Arizona Cardinals. Linebacking and defensive secondary help wouldn't hurt the cause either.
2009 Arizona Cardinals player lost to free agency
J.J. Arrington a talented kick returner and 3rd down receiving type running back has signed with the Denver Broncos. His receiving out of the backfield and ability to break the occasional long run will be missed.
Cornerback Eric Green went to the Miami Dolphins in 2009 NFL free agency. Long snapper Nathan Hodel signed with the New England Patriots thus dealing another blow to the Arizona special teams.
