Wichita,Kansas stakes a claim to American Idol contestant Phil Stacey
According to the 2-25-07 Sunday issue of the Wichita Eagle of all the cities claiming to be linked to American Idol contestant Wichita has just as big of link as any.When Phil Stacey was in 8th grade his pastor father got a job at Rolling Hills Baptist church which moved their family from Kentucky to Wichita.Stacey attended Wilbur Middle School for a year and he attended and graduated from Northwest High School in 97', which during his high school years he was a member of the drama club and one of the star members of the Northwest High Madrigals ( a select singing group).

Wichita is where Stacey first took to the stage for his singing career being part of a quintet doo-wap group "Sexual Chocolate" that performed at venues around the city.Once enlisted in the U.S. Navy he became lead singer for a Navy rock and roll band,Pride. Prompted by a few years of his friends that first heard his talent they kept telling him that he should try out for American Idol after making it through elimination of thousands of hopefuls Stacey snatched up a spot on the top 24 contestants.

For Staceys friends in Wichita,Kansas it has seemed to be surreal,one of his long time friends stated "You don't expect to turn on American Idol and see your buddy there but of course we are all pulling for him".If he keeps belting out songs such as " I could not ask for more" I think he may have a shot to reach the covenant top 10.Being a American Idol fan and a Wichita native I'll be pulling for Phil Stacey and I wish him all the luck.
