Make this cute sachet for yourself or as a gift to make for a friend. To make the sachet, you'll need:
  • A 9"x3" piece of lightweight fabric, such as cotton or silk
  • 24" of thread or embroidery floss
  • Scissors
  • Needle,
  • Small button
  • 1 T dried chamomile flowers
  • 1 T dried lavender flowers
  • 1 T dried rose petals
  • Rose, lavender, or other calming essential oils (optional)
  • Piece of paper towel

Hold the fabric so that it is a tall rectangle. Fold the bottom up towards the top a little less than half way, so that there is about an inch remaining above. This will be folded down later, like an envelope.

Thread your needle with the thread or floss and tie a knot on the end. Make sure the knot is big enough that it will not pull through the fabric. Starting on one of the sides, at the corner of the folded up end is, bring your needle up through both layers, and make stitches down the sides, around the bottom edge, and back up the other side, stopping at the opposite corner. Knot the thread again on the underside, and cut the thread. Now the pouch should be closed on three sides.

Next, fold the top flap down and eye where the button should be placed on the side of the fabric you stitched. Rethread your needle and knot it. Place the button on the spot and come up through one button hole and down the other. Repeat until button is secure and knot it again, then cut the thread.

Now, fold the top flap back down over the button and see where you need to make the hole. Once you have the spot, pinch the fabric together and use the scissors to cut a slit. Make sure your button can go through, but not too big where it will not stay closed.

Prepare your herbs by taking them and rubbing them between your fingers over the paper towel. This will release their scents. Pour a few drops of the essentials oils of your choice if you wise. Fold the paper towel in half and use it like a funnel to gently pour the herb mixture into the pouch.

Button the pouch closed and thread the remaining string under the flap to hang it from a bedpost. Replace the herbs when the smell is gone. Sweet Dreams!
