So we have had the Oscars for another year and yet again there have been few surprises. It has just become so predictable and one dimensional. Personally if I was an actor I would pay no attention to the Oscars. I know that is a controversial comment, but I just feel there are so many talented people in Hollywood who just don't get the recognition they deserve. While the same sort of movies win year after year.

The biggest example out there has to be Tom Cruise he is the true picture of a professional actor, but never gets recognition. I know he has a somewhat controversial personal life with Scientology and other events. That said Cruise's personal life is an entirely separate issue from what he does for a living. Cruise goes way and beyond what he has to and it's clear he loves what he does. When you're involved in a movie series like Mission Impossible and you learn he does 90% of his stunts you truly realize what an incredible talent he is. On top of this he is a wonderful producer and the majority of his recent movies are his vision. In my mind Cruise is a rare talent who deserves more recognition to the immense impact he has on the movie industry.

This brings me nicely onto the kind of movies that win Oscars. I tend to watch movies for one main reason and that is to be entertained. With that said I would not look towards a movie that has won Oscars as they are rarely entertaining. Tragic stories seem to be more the order of the day. I would rather see an inspirational story such as pursuit of happiness. There is already way too much negatively in this world I would hope that the movies can give us a lift and remind us of the wonderful things in the world.

Takeaways
  • Do we need a new award show?
  • Do entertaining movies win Oscars?
  • Have the Oscars become a little bit predictable?
Did You Know?
The 79th annual Oscars feature their most ethnically varied lineup ever, with stars and stories that reflect the growing multiculturalism taking root around the globe.

I am not a fan of Hollywood. For years I have seen a slant in a negative, "Me, Myself & I" prromo that is less than enjoyable. How many times can we watch the same people try to outdo each other or their last prank. As for talent, it is sad that most of these "so-called stars", could not talk themselves out of a papaer bag without a script. The actions of these people leaves a great deal to be desired. I would rather pay to see or even participate in voting for individuals/groups/organizations up for the following awards: Best non-abusive media personality, Best Written Publication of the Year, Best Speaking Voice, or Best Military Action of the Year.
