Fostering a Strong Work Ethic in Children
When you found out you were going to have a baby you started to dream about how your child was going to turn out. Dreams of your child's future probably included your child being successful and having a strong work ethic. Raising children with a strong work
ethic doesn't happen by chance. Parents need to teach their children work ethics by example.
The first thing you need to do to foster a strong work ethic in your children is be an example of the person you want your child to be. If you want your child to be someone who takes pride in what he is doing, you need to take pride in what you are doing. If you want your child to have a strong work ethic, you need to have strong work ethics.
Don't assume that because you went to work your child will know you are actually working. If you want your child to know that you don't just chat with coworkers all day long, you need to teach different. Show your child your work ethics. Let your child help you at work when possible. When taking your child with you isn't possible don't worry that your child won't have a strong work ethic. Tell your child about your day at work.
Tell your child how good it feels to do a job well. Don't teach your child to get by with a job done. Teach your child that a job worth doing is a job worth doing well. Having a strong work ethic means you not only do your job but you take pride in doing your job well.

Teaching your child how rewarding it is to get good grades teaches them the intrinsic value of a strong work ethic. Teaching your child to enjoy the intrinsic rewards of a strong work ethic can start with extrinsic rewards. Give rewards for good grades.
