It's been 60+ years since Earl Tupper devised a way to take smelly plastic and turn it into a bowl with a nifty lid that burped when you sealed it properly onto the bowl. Not only did it burp, he made it come in pretty colors and without the essence of petroleum. What an innovative idea. I would figure he was pretty darned proud of himself.

Now that he had come up with this exclusive product his next step was to market it. He trotted it off to the local stores and had it stocked on the shelves. He sent it to more widespread areas as mass marketing for other stores to stock their shelves. And the shelves were stocked! And the newly named "Tupperware" products were handled by women and replaced on the shelves. And the shelves were dusted. And the process kept repeating itself. Poor Earl had no idea of what was wrong. He had created a great product; a product that had a lid that had never before been invented. He had created a plastic lid for a plastic bowl that would lock out air and moisture and keep food fresh. It was truly a remarkable product the likes of which no one had ever seen before, yet no one was buying it. All poor Earl could do was scratch his head and wonder why. He had made signs and posters that were all brightly colored announcing his Tupperware. He had placed ads. What more could he do?
