St. Patrick's Day Events in Detroit, MI

To jump start your St. Patrick's Day celebration consider attending the 49th Annual St. Patrick's Parade in Detroit on Sunday, March 11, 2007. The parade starts at 2pm and is sponsored by the United Irish Societies in Detroit. The parade is along Michigan Avenue in an area affectionately called "Corktown". Corktown is where many Irish people settled from Ireland that arrived in the Detroit area. Not only does the parade travel through Corktown, but Corktown is also the location of well-known restaurants and pubs to continue your St. Patrick's Day celebration.

If you enjoy Celtic Music and other Irish influenced tunes, another event available for your week of celebration is a trip to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall. The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) will perform a variety of songs in honor of Irish culture. Canadian-born, Natalie MacMaster, will also be performing with the DSO. Natalie Macmaster is a master fiddle player who started playing at the age of nine. Natalie's performances are renowned for their driving energy and awesome intensity. Natalie's performance with the DSO will start March 15, 2007 and continue through March 18, 2007. There is seating available for morning and evening performances. In addition to DSO much anticipated performance, Riverdance will also be performing in Detroit the week of St. Patrick's Day. Riverdance is currently touring nationally and will be in Detroit March 16th through 17th for a total of five performances. The company consists of over 100 dancers that engage in flawless jumps and kicks with traditional Celtic style. The Irish traditions displayed in Riverdance are told through music and lyrics arranged by Bill Whelan. Riverdance will be at the historical Fox Theatre located on Woodward Ave of Downtown.

The shamrock is an unofficial symbol of Ireland.
