Tapas originally started out in Spain. These small appetizers were served with drinks before dinner and sometimes in bars. Today Americans have restaurants that are devoted to tapas. At these restaurants people choose from a wide variety of small appetizers. While some of these restaurants only serve Spanish appetizers, others have evolved and serve appetizers from countries all over the world. While enjoying tapas in a restaurant is fine, throwing your own tapas party is even better.

Throwing a Tapas Party Tip #1: Sandwiches

A wonderful way to throw a tapas party is to just reinvent all your favorite sandwiches. To do this, you will need cocktail bread and the ingredients you use to make your favorite sandwiches. For example, you could make BLT tapas. Simply toast some cocktail bread slices in the oven while you fry some bacon. I suggest cutting the bacon slices into four pieces so that they will easily fit onto the bread. Next slice some cherry tomatoes and tear lettuce leaves into small pieces. Spread the toasted bread with mayonnaise and top with the lettuce, tomato, and bacon.

Throwing a Tapas Party Tip #2: Main Dishes

The key to a tapas party is to just think small. Take your favorite recipes and make small portions rather than large ones. For example, to make mini quiche, simply prepare them in a mini muffin pan. You could also make mini meatloaves the same way. Another great idea would be to take a beef tenderloin, cut slices, and pound those out. Spread on a mixture of Bleu cheese, cream cheese, and cooked spinach. Then roll the small steaks up and place in wet tooth picks. Brown on both sides, in a hot skillet, cooking to the desired doneness.

Throwing a Tapas Party Tip #3: Desserts

When throwing a tapas party you must remember the desserts. An easy way to make dessert tapas, is to prepare trifles in shot glasses. You could also use a melon scoop and create mini sundaes. Mini cupcakes could easily be made in a mini muffin pan. You could even make mini ice cream sandwiches using pre-cut cookie dough you buy at the store.
