Responsibilities of a Stay at Home Parent

If someone would have told me all of the responsibilities that come with being a stay at home parent, I might have second guessed myself before opting into this new world of parenting.

Parents have found new ways to make it possible for one of them to stay at home with the children while the other one takes on a full time job. I worked hard for most of my life and one day my husband asked me how I felt about staying at home with the children while he worked at his job.
I was interested in doing this and before I new it, I was putting in my two weeks notice at my job and settling back into the idea of being a stay at home mom.

The responsibilities can be hard and can sometimes seem almost nerve racking. I have been a stay at home parent for almost three months and I have had my moments with it. I start my morning off by getting the children ready for school and feeding them breakfast. I then take them to school and again pick the two middle age kids up from school at noon, their school ends at noon. I wait until three too pick up our oldest child before heading back to the house to try to finish cleaning.

This is only a glimpse at all that I do throughout the day. I am now responsible for all of the teachers meetings and doctors appointments. I get to be in charge of running the kids back and forth to their sporting events and taking them to their friends house.

I enjoy being a stay at home parent but sometimes I could use a little me time. Wednesdays are my day. On Wednesday, I drop the younger kids off at the babysitters after taking the older children to school. From nine in the morning until three in the afternoon on Wednesdays, I get to just sit at home and relax. This is how I keep myself from going insane.

I never really knew how much responsibilities came with being a stay at home mom until I was granted the option to do this. I still love doing it and being there for the kids but I sometimes miss the adult conversations that took place in the middle of a work place. My husband loves this new role that I am playing, he loves it when I meet him at the door and the fact that we no longer have to pay for a babysitter five days a week is a bit of a plus.
