Illegal immigration is a hot-button issue, finally. Nowhere else is this more a problem than in Arizona, and Governor Janet Napolitano is fed up. She's pretty much on her knees now and begging Congress to stop pussyfooting around and start implementing realistic goals.

We've heard too much talk about border security and not enough action. All of America is waiting - and time is running out." Gov. Napolitano said in a speech at the National Press Club.

"Foreigners who have degrees in special fields should be automatically entitled to come work in the United States regardless of existing federal visa restrictions." Added Napolitano

Gov. Napolitano's unfortunate facts add to a laundry list of the "all fart and no shit" politics that have surrounded the pre-2006 midterm elections of the Bush administration.

Her solution is a combination of border enforcement, a temporary worker program to deal with the demand for workers to fill jobs in the U.S. and strong cooperation with Mexico and other trade partners. Hmm, that sounds quite reasonable, Janet.

No offense George, but that whole 700-miles of fencing bill you signed last year... it um, crap.

In the past, Congress has debated the problem, but only on a single issue at a time and always without actual results. Note to Congress: You can't fix the plumbing without turning off the water. Federal courts have thrown up the idea of changing the Constitution to make the status of children born in the US, but to illegal immigrant parents, also illegal.

"I don't believe you take a failed national immigration policy out on children," the governor said. "They don't choose where they're going to be born. They don't choose where they're going to be brought."

Gov. Napolitano's has estimated that the federal government owes Arizona $350 million for the cost of holding illegal immigrants in jail. That kind of money, Napolitano claims "could pay for all-day kindergarten for every 5-year-old in the state."
