North Carolina Pair an Internet Hit
While browsing the news on Yahoo one day, I noticed a link for something called The Shamwow Song. I had to see what this was about. There were two guys dressed like Vince the Shamwow guy. OnceRhett McLaughlin and Link Neal are life long friends from North Carolina. They both have engineering degrees from NC State, but after a couple of years they became speakers / singers/ videographers at Campus Crusade for Christ's Mid - South Headquarters. Three years later they begin their own production company and the internetainers were born. For those of us that are hooked on their songs, we are grateful engineering didn't win this one.
One thing about them that amazes me is their ability to get into their characters. They really seem to transform themselves. It's like you are looking at two completely different people. The most surprising thing is they can really sing! Rhett plays guitar and Link plays the harmonica, recorder and trumpet. They have over 200 videos on their YouTube channel and there is a second channel as well with behind the scenes videos. The Rhett and Link website has so much to watch that you'll be there for hours.
Now if you are wondering exactly what they do, well the list is long and varied. First are the music videos. There are my favorites The Fireworks Song, The Cornhole Song, The Maine Man Song ,The BBQ Song, and the Sunburn Song. Along with those there are songs about cheese, Wal Mart, food carts, Velcro, and Guacamole. I know what you're thinking... songs about Guacamole, sunburn and Velcro?? Yes but the songs work. They are so good you almost forget what they are singing about. The tunes are so addictive you'll find yourself singing them all day. Did I ever think I would be singing a song about sunburn? Nope.. and every time I see the Shamwow commercial I want to sing it! One of the newest things on the website is the Fast Food Folk Song. This was done at a Taco Bell drive through and it is a classic already! I'm going be curbing the urge to sign my order next time I visit Taco Bell.
