When you are designing a child's room, you immediately can come up with several fun ideas. Many children's rooms are decorated around their favorite cartoon character or favorite activity. For this reason, bedding, coloring, paintings, and the extra little things are easy to buy. But what do you do about curtains?

Yes, children need some kind of coverings on their windows. You need to keep out the sun. You need to keep other's from looking into the child's room. You need to keep in warm heat or cool air, depending on the season. Most of all, if the windows do not have the right look than the decorating process of the room will fail.

Should you match the curtains to the child's bedding? This is a popular choice. But since many of the beddings we use for children are quite bright and colorful, if you go full stream with every piece then the room is going to be a maddening mess with color.

Maybe you will decide to not even use curtains? You could decide to use blinds. This will allow the child's room to have more privacy. Or maybe you would like to do something different, something more fun to the window's in your child's room.

How about using some plain curtains of one color? Then you can decorate the curtain rods. You could wind silk flowers around the top or use them as a tie back. If the room is decorated in a jungle theme, you could use plain vines. You could hang sports medals from the curtain rods or pin them onto the sides of the curtains themselves, if you are using a sports theme.

For an extra fun look, you could use plain curtains as a back drop. Then you can hang a beaded curtain of all colors from the rod as well. If the child likes a lot of light, you could draw back the plain curtain during the day. This would allow the sun to hit the beads and make them sparkle.

Bored with plain old blinds? How about grabbing some stencils and spray paint? You can then create any design you want.

If you aren't big on stenciling and paint, remember you can buy blinds customized to fit your needs. They can be customized any color and any size.

Takeaways
  • You can use blinds instead of curtains.
  • You can add unique items to the child's curtains such as lace, sea shells or iron ons of all kinds.
  • For a fun look, you may even want to use a beaded curtain instead of a plain fabric one.
