How would you feel if you found out that your child stumbled upon pornography on the internet? The first reaction may be anger at your child for looking at such filth. But things like pornography could just all of a sudden pop up on your computer screen if you aren't too careful at what you do online. Parents are always looking for other ways to protect their children and the internet is no different when it comes to the very real dangers that they could experience.Talk to Your Children!
First and foremost, let your child know about the dangers of the internet. They should know that it is a very resourceful tool in order to find information that they need for school or recreation, but caution should be used in whatever they do.
Everything from pornography to sexual predators needs to be discussed because there is a lot more that your children deal with on the internet alone than the amount of threats that you experienced when you were a young child. For girls and boys alike, chat rooms can be a dangerous thing. If they are not careful they could end up getting into a situation that could be dangerous, like meeting a pedophile or even be addicted to pornography.
Firewalls and Spyware Detection!
Next what you should do is download several pieces of software from the internet that is free of spyware that will actually cleanse your computer and block out the bad things for your children. One example would be a firewall. Downloading a free firewall, like Avast or AVG, from the internet will give you security that no filth will get through.
In addition to firewalls, spyware detectors should be downloaded. There are many that can be found on the internet, but a couple of the better ones are Adaware and Spybot. These pieces of free software will actually clean your computer to get rid of some of the stuff that may be attracting spyware that you don't want reaching your children.
When it comes to internet browsers, like Microsoft Internet Explorer or Firefox, you can set the security setting to a high setting so you'll be even more protected. You can even specifically block certain websites from being viewed which will give you more parental control.
