We've covered the Northern Kingdom in sufficient detail with the books of 1st and 2nd Kings. Although the Chronicles overlap some of the same areas as the books of Kings, we'll use the Chronicles to discuss the Southern Kingdom of Israel.

1 Chronicles

The book of 1 Chronicles is a narrative made mostly of the accounts that can be found in the books of Samuel. The first one-third of the book is devoted to genealogy beginning with Adam and endings with the last generations after Saul. Unusually, halfway through the genealogy in Chapter 4, the writer stops to describe the life and prayer of Jabez. At the end of the genealogy, the writer begins to tell the story of the death of Saul and the ascension of David to the thrown. The book then recounts important events such as the transporting of the Ark of the Covenant, Nathan's confrontation with David over his adultery with Bathsheeba, and David's attempt to build God's temple. At the end, David passes on the crown to his son Solomon which is where 2 Chronicles picks up the story.
