My husband loves pizza. So when we first moved to Las Vegas three years ago, we naturally tried out Sammy's Woodfired Pizza on West Sahara and it quickly became one of our favorite eateries. We're never disappointed when we eat there. Last week, we decided to visit Sammy's since we hadn't eaten there since they renovated the dining room and outside dining area.

When we arrived, we first noticed the new outside dining area. Before they just had a few tables and chairs; now there are built in booths with a large fire pit in the middle. It's was a chilly night, so the heat felt nice.

We were immediately greeted by the friendly hostess who had the door opened, ready for us. We came around 8 p.m. on a Friday night and were surprised to be seated right away in one of their new smaller booths inside with prime views of the wood oven. I noticed they also redecorated the hostess area with vibrant rock tiles.

One thing about Sammy's is that they have a variety of options on their menu. My husband ordered his favorite, a New York Style pizza without the mushrooms. I ordered the Grilled Shrimp Salad. Our waitress was very attentive, which is rare in this town. Although, I got the impression she thought she was doing a bad job because she kept thanking us for being patient.

Our food arrived in about 15 minutes. I was amazed at the size of my salad since I ordered the individual size. It was huge! I'm curious to see what a full size salad looks like. I didn't think I'd be able to eat all of it, but after one taste, I knew I was up to the challenge. The salad included roasted sunflower seeds, bell peppers, feta cheese, scallions, cilantro, roma tomatoes, and mixed greens tossed in a very flavorful balsamic basil dressing. Six grilled garlic shrimps outlined the plate. Everything in the salad complemented each other. I tried to get a little bit of everything in each bite. The shrimp was grilled to perfection; not tough at all. Before I realized it, the entire salad was gone.
