Most people would like to work from home because there is no commute, you can usually work whenever you want to, wake up whenever you want to, and work in your pajamas. There are a lot of perks that comes with a work from home job but before someone goes and gets a job that requires them to work from home, they should sit down and go over the pros and cons. The pros are easy and are usually the factors that drive many to work from home. Looking at the cons however, it is easy to see that one should find out if they can or should work from home.

Should You Work From Home - Setting A Schedule

When working at a regular job there is a schedule that has to be kept. Working from home in most cases, you make your own schedule and this can work for some but others can find that they only work whenever they feel like it. That can be a bad attitude to have when they discover that they have not done as much work as they thought that they would. A work from home schedule is especially important for parents who have small children who stay at home with them. Children can and will be a distraction so a good time to work should be scheduled around the children's own daily schedule.

Should You Work From Home - Paycheck

Try not to jump in the work from home jobs until your finances are secure because most work from home jobs only pay once a month. You will find some places that pay weekly or bi-weekly but even more pay just monthly. Getting paid monthly can set you back badly if you need to pay the bills at a certain time and you do not have any money to pay it and you are waiting on your paycheck from your work from home job. Have all your bills paid and try to start a month or so before you have to pay rent or utility bills again. Also be aware that most work from home jobs have training before you start which can last from a few days to a few months and not all work from home jobs pay you for the training.

Excellent article! I work from home as the main and only source of income. Insurance is a huge factor because without my husband's I'd be drowned in medical expenses. Also, having to set quotas for myself and maintain a regular schedule can be difficult at times. Working from home is not as easy as everyone makes it seem. I think that it's great you pointed out some of the pitfalls of "luxury" job that so many view it as being. Thanks for the info and other side of the picture.
