Associated Content Poetry Challenge for Easter

Easter is widely regarded as a Christian Holiday although it's origins go back much further than the time of Jesus. Before there was Easter there was a pagan festival called the Festival of Ostara where the Goddess
awoke from her sleep to embrace the God and fertilize the land. My family celebrates a Pagan Easter by showing our love for one another and sharing our food with family and friends. The kids collect colorful Easter eggs and find baskets filled with chocolate and goodies. Easter is a happy festival. This poem shares our Easter with you for National Poetry Month in conjunction with Associated Content's Month Long Poetry Challenge. I hope you enjoy.

A Pagan Easter

Easter today
And we
didn't pray
At least we didn't
in the usual way

We feasted
And laughed
And broke our bread
Our food was shared
With family and friends

We honored
The Goddess as she
Rose from sleep
The God embraced her
And we tried not to weep

We watched
As the sun shone
Bright and yellow
While the kids played
When the wind was mellow

We sung
To tunes on
The radio station
Grateful to be
On school vacation

We wished
Each other a
Happy Easter
While telling the kids
Don't eat that Mister!

We loved
One another and our
world was aglow
As above
So below
