Are you looking for a dog that can be high energy as well as shy and gentle. A whippet may be the perfect dog for you. Whippets are very loving and gentle in nature, making them the perfect candidate for anyone.

Whippets are very slim in appearance. They are often confused with they greyhound. Due to their slim appearance, they like to sleep on soft surfaces and do not do well in colder climates. A sweater is necessary for whippets living in places that can get cold. Also due to their slim appearance, they need to be exercised at least once a day. They have a very short coat, so frequent grooming is not necessary.

Whippets are perfect around children. They are patient and do not usually bite or nip. They are also very playful and will give your little ones a workout. Whippets are also good around other pets; they just need to be introduced properly.

Whippets are not good as watchdogs at all. They are either shy to strangers or will greet them with a kiss. Since some whippets can be shy, you will most likely find them lounging around or ready to cuddle. If you use gentleness, obedience training is very easy with the whippet.

All in all, the whippet is a very sweet pet for anyone young, old, or in between. They are not the best dogs for protection or apartments. Whippets also make a great show dog.

On the other hand, dachshunds remind everyone of a hot dog when it comes to appearances. They have long bodies, short legs, and long, floppy ears. They come in two sizes of miniature and standard, but generally are a small and light dog.

Dachshunds are a very high strung dog. On fact, they might be known as the dog with ADHD. They constantly love to play and snuggle with others. While their constant desire to play can be entertaining, it can also prove to be annoying when you are busy with other things. Another annoying thing that comes with dachshunds is their high pitched bark. This is a great bark when it comes to being a guard dog, but highly irritating in every day situations.

I agree with your description of the dachsund. I didn't know much about whippets, but they sound like a good pet for an older household. Very well-written.
