St. Patrick's Day celebrates the patron saint of Ireland, who is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland 1600 years ago. Although St. Patrick is associated with Ireland, the way that we celebrate it is uniquely American. St. Patrick's Day is a holy day that has become associated with parties, parades, leprechauns, green beer and good Irish Whiskey. Today, everyone is welcome to celebrate the festivals and parades that are around America.

Following are some parades and events in the southern states of Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana and Kentucky. There are some really unique and wacky celebrations in these southern states. Hot Springs, Arkansas holds their parade on the "shortest street in the world". They embellish their short parade with green fireworks, Elvis look-alikes and Irish Belly Dancers. The parades in Baton Rouge and New Orleans have party atmosphere, with people filling the streets and beads being thrown from floats.
