The baby boomer generation is near their retirement age. However, with people living longer, and rising costs of living and healthcare, many baby boomers are looking for jobs to help pay for their expenses later in their retired lives when they will be unable to work. The baby boomer generation is one of high morals and a strong dedication to doing good work. This great work ethic makes them a wonderful market of potential employees for both small and large businesses. As an added bonus to most businesses today the baby boomers are generally only looking to work part-time and many have access to health care plans and do not need to obtain them through an employer. The baby boomers can be a great part-time, no benefits, pool of employees who will not be looking for more hours and benefits.
Baby boomers often have years, or even decades, of experience in the workplace. This makes them ideal employees because they have vast amounts of knowledge they can apply to their work. Many of the skills and knowledge they have obtained over the years makes them easier to train for their current positions and means they can draw on their years of experience to get the job done.
Baby boomers are also great mentors for younger, less experienced, employees. The baby boomers are able to teach the younger employees their knowledge and are able to mentor younger employees in the ways of the working world. They can help younger workers navigate office politics and teach them how to work with people of all backgrounds.
Baby boomers are less likely to engage in office politics or office games. They come to work prepared to get the job done, and their work ethic helps them to keep their nose to the grindstone and get the work done that they are being paid to do. The baby boomer generation does not possess the entitlement mentality that many of the younger generations do.
