Homemade bread is hard to come by now-a-days. You can go to the store and buy pre-sliced bread for your sandwiches. You can visit your local bakery and pick up delicious bread that requires no work for you. You can also buy a bread machine that virtually does all the work for you. All you do is buy a bread mix, throw it in with water and press "start". However, there is still nothing like the smell of homemade bread in your oven. Baking homemade bread during the holidays and winter months is something no one can replace. For those that agree, here are some tips to make your homemade bread absolutely mouthwatering. Helping Bread Rise
Some bread dough is slow to rise. If this happens to you, the best fix is to use an electric heating pad. Take some aluminum foil and wrap the heating pad completely. Than, place your dough in the center and watch it rise much quicker.
Fixing Burnt Bread
This is one of the most fantastic tricks. Have you ever had bread that burns on one side, or on the edges? Don't worry. No one will ever know. Remove the bread from the oven and use a grater to scrape off the burned edges. Once this is done, glaze those edges with egg yoke and put back into the oven for about 2 minutes. The previously burnt edges will turn out a beautiful golden brown.
Is it ready to Bake?
Some homemade bread makers find it difficult to decide whether or not dough is ready to bake. There is a simple way to know. Use your index finger and middle finger and lightly press the top of the risen dough. If the small dent remains, it is ready to bake. If the dough bounces back, wait a while before baking.
Easy Rolling
Sometimes rolling homemade bread dough can become very frustrating. It is annoying when the dough begins to stick to the rolling pin. If this happens to you, place your rolling pin in the freezer for 10-15 minutes. When you remove it from the freezer and roll your dough, you will be amazed at the difference.
Homemade bread making is a slowly disappearing art. Yes, it is more convenient to buy a loaf of bread at the grocery store, but it doesn't have the same homey feel. If you use these tips, your homemade bread sessions will be a lot less stressful.
