There exists a group of people who cringe when the phrase "former Beatle Paul McCartney" appears in print. To these fans, Paul McCartney will always be more than the bassist of The Beatles. Aside from his musical ventures with Wings and into the classical genre, McCartney's role extends to father, husband, friend, boss, and champion of animal rights.

Paul McCartney's fans are in general a caring group. They raise money for charitable causes on their own in McCartney's name, display their Paul pride with tee shirts, pins, and ribbons. Beyond that, the fans support McCartney, or 'Macca' as he is known to them, through everything.

Currently, McCartney is going through a very public divorce with Heather Mills. Though many McCartney fans were dubious about the marriage from the beginning, most supported him anyway.

A prominent fan known as JaneP, also a private McCartney list moderator and webmaster of JaneP's Paul Page, says it best. Each link to her McCartney photo pages say "More More Paul Paul!" Like Jane, many fans feel as though Paul brings a smile to their face each day.

Many of McCartney's fans have followed his career from the beginning and rightly consider themselves to be the very foundation of his fan base. It took decades for fans to begin to deconstruct the stereotype: women crying and clawing at a fence in hysterics after the "cute Beatle" married Linda Eastman.

McCartney's fan base is now very diverse. Aside from the original fans from Europe, North America, and Australia, McCartney's popularity reaches South America, Africa, Russia, and Asia. This is due to McCartney's outreach as a performer and a humanitarian--his image and history show that when fans want him to perform in a location, he'll be there, even if that means setting up in Red Square, Moscow.

The variety within McCartney' base displays more than just differences in nationality. Many children of original McCartney fans also like McCartney's music, creating something for families to discuss at the dinner table. Young women adore him as a former sex symbol, musical talent, or as a father figure. Young men may aspire to be like him.

Thank you, everyone, for your positive comments. And as for Heather down there... obviously you haven't read the rest of my articles. I don't usually write celeb-focused stuff, but since I am a Macca fan myself, I thought I should. I have a genuine love for the Paul. Sorry if you can't handle that ;/

I LOVE PAUL MCCARTNEY!! He has a kind heart!! I felt so sorry for him when Lin died. He deserved so much better when he married Heather Mills. She married him for his money and now she is on Dancing w/ The Stars...getting all the fame and glory she wanted all along. So sorry, paul...Maybe the next time things will work out and you will find that special love again.

I'm definitely a Macca fan, and was born after John Lennon died. I respect both men as Beatles and as solo artists. I realize that there are a lot of rumors of abuse in his marriage with Heather, but wouldn't it have come out with Linda? He was married to her for nearly 30 years. Most of his fans couldn't stand Heather from the beginning, but I wanted to give her a fair shake. Looks like he was duped. He is one of the few people who still believes in true loved, and it cost him quite a lot.

God, these articles are soo short. Soo mindless. Does anyone write about anything besides movies, food and politics? *sigh*

No matter what people think or say, there's no denying the contribution the man had made to the world of music. This is nice, for a brief synopsis.

I am not a fan, but I like some of his music. Sometimes you have to take what you see in print with a grain of salt. There are two sides to every story and he didn't seem to have any problems with his first marriage, so its hard to believe that the second was treated any differently. Great article!

I've always like Paul McCartney, but I'm not a diehard fan. Great article, though!

I think Sir Paul is not only one of the true Gentlemen left, but has always been kind and peaceful. I just hate what Heather Mills is doing to him. What a witch she is.

This may sound wierd, but my sister is one of those McCartney fans. This article has actually helped me understand her better.
