Tips for My Son

Dear Sam,I won't forget the day you were born, and being overwhelmed with the joy of knowing that the world was blessed with the addition of such a spectacular individual. Life is unpredictable, yet uncertainty does not pertain to the unwavering feeling of love that I feel for you. Many concepts can not be taught, as they must be inborn within the individual. Fortunately, you possess the qualities, which allow one to be successful in a competitive world. However, there are general principles that you must adhere to throughout your life.
Do not allow the opinions of others to define your self-concept. Allowing others to define your worth will empower others to control your destiny. You must remain true to your noble convictions without fear of being criticized or ridiculed by other people. There is much that goes into forming such an unbreakable personality, all of which relates to self-confidence that is gained through self-discipline.
Self-discipline can be defined as staying the course despite the obstacles that stand in your way. Failing at some point in life is inevitable, yet victory will occur if you remain steadfast in pursuit of your goals. Great people throughout history were successful because they exhibited a relentless commitment to realizing their dreams.
Remain relaxed and focused. Anxiety creates mental friction that inhibits one to perform at their optimal level. Breathe, remain calm, and allow yourself to stay focused on the task-at-hand. Maintaining a calm and focused state-of-mind is essential to all physical and mental pursuits.
Lead a law-abiding lifestyle, and may all your actions be honorable. Adherence to the law is of the utmost importance to success and happiness.
Never let a day go by without recognizing the joy you have given me and the eternal love I have for you.
Love,
Dad
