Wrestling Society X may have only lived on MTV for a month or so, but its legacy may very well last much longer. This is because, once every decade or so a rare wrestler comes along who combines a great independent gimmick with the skills and charisma needed to create a real star-worthy buzz in the sports entertainment business. That is exactly what you could have said about the WSX champion Vampiro nearly ten years ago, but with his brief exposure on MTV lately, the "Canadian Vampire" may be in line for another shot at the big leagues of professional wrestling.

Thought of only as a luchadore version of hardcore icon Raven, he was often passed over for a big push in the late 1990's while wrestling in World Championship Wrestling. It has also been reported that backstage politics with the likes of Konnan among others also held Vampiro back during his days in WCW. His true fans though realized long ago that not only does he walk the walk, but he also talks the talk, reportedly living his vampire gimmick not only inside the ring, but outside as well. Several websites claim that he has actually had dental implants that allow him to interchange different sets of fangs for when he is in and out of the ring.

Credibility and legacy like that, combined with a unique in-ring skill have allowed Vampiro to thrive on the independent scene since his departure from WCW nearly 6 years ago. Since then, however, it seems that he has shunned success in promotions such as World Wrestling Entertainment, and Total Non-Stop Action, opting instead to work independent and Japanese shows.

With the current standing of Wrestling Society X in doubt, and Vampiro's stock as high as it's been in years it may be time for the independent icon to cash in and accept some mainstream work. And Vampiro's edge and controversy could be just what the WWE or TNA could be looking for, especially with the recent re-invention of Extreme Championship Wrestling in WWE.

Takeaways
  • Vampiro is a Candian born wrestler turned Luchadore that competed in WCW in the late 90's.
