Volcanoes are an amazing part of our world. These are beautiful and yet at the same time pose a danger none of us ever want to encounter. Seeing a volcano erupt is like watching a power of nature we'll never have control of; much like the ocean. I had the privilege to go on a trip to Costa Rica where we hiked up an active volcano and spent a couple of nights on the mountain. It was one of the best trips of my life, we saw fireflies and swam it natural hot springs produced by the mountain. I live in Oregon where there are many volcanoes on display for all to see. The hiking in Oregon is incredible. If you are in the area you must visit the volcanic wonder of Black Crater. This is the best place to study volcanic landscape in the State of Oregon. Black crater is an old cinder that towers above the many lava flows and forests east of the cascade divide. This is a great hike for all interested in the volcanic history and issues. If you are a student you might invite a professor to come point out all if the amazing things we can learn about volcanoes and volcanic activity on the trip. You can learn about cinder cones, eroded plugs, lava vents, and kipukas if you bring someone along who is an expert on the subject.
