There are many reasons why someone would want to quit their present job. The pay is lousy, the boss is a jerk, the hours are a literal killer and you are not spending enough time at home with your family. If you want to quit your job and do something else, then you just have to do it, but leaping into the world of independence is done best by careful planning.

What To Expect
Before you take that leap, you need to know what is going to happen so that there are no surprises. You probably are used to getting paid every week. Once you are on your own, that won't be happening regularly. Some weeks there will be bigger pay than others. Your income will be often times unreliable. There are three things you need to do before leaving your current job.

1.Figure out how much you need to live on to quit
Think about each and every expense that you have and write down the total number for what you need to survive for a year, then times that number by ten. For example, if you need $20,000 a year to live and be happy, then in order for you to quit your day job, you need $200,000 safe in your bank account-tax free, before you say goodbye to your boss.

2. Eliminate any debt you have
It will not be any fun working for yourself if you have to deal with any type of debt. Sure, you can work it in to the money you saved away, but that could be money spent putting into your new business or investing it wisely for even more income.

3.Put more money aside for emergencies and unseen expenses
Nothing hurts more than an unseen expense. You need to put aside money separate from your living expenses. Nothing could hurt you more than using the money you need to pay bills and eat for an emergency.

How To Quit
You should start off part-time working in what you want to do, and keep your day job. When you have ten years savings in the bank, making more than your current job, then it will be time to say goodbye to your boss. You can slice off 10% or more (depending on your budget )from your job to add to what you're making at home, to speed up the process faster.
