Toys

You are the proud owner of a parrot and you are looking for a toy for your pet. The offer of parrot toys on the market is huge, so how do you know which parrot toy is safe for your pet? A chew rope is a very useful parrot toy as it allows your pet to exercise its habit every day without causing any problems to itself. As a matter of fact, almost any chew toy will be appreciated. Just make sure to use common sense when when shopping around. If you look at a parrot toy and it doesn't seem safe, don't buy it.

Cage

Cage size and space will be an imortant issue when considering a parrot since they will most likely spend a considerable amount of time in there. Remember the bigger the cage is, the happier the parrot will be, so buy the largest one you can afford. Why not buy an extra toy or two for later while you are at it. But take car not to go ove board. Do not go out and buy a super large aviary if you intentions are to just own one or two small budgerigars.

Food

It is a common misconception that most parrots eat seeds. They don't eat seeds, so don't get a diet with seeds. They make waste as they eat and in their natural world this doesn't present a problem. This corresponds with the times when birds gather to eat and congregate with other birds.

The parrot will eat fruits, nuts, vegetables and grains. Parrots are opportunistic omnivores, which in plain English means they eat whatever they encounter in their day ("opportunistic") and, like us, eat from all the food groups - veggies & fruits, grain, and animal protein ("omnivores"). Because some of the plant material they eat also contains toxins, parrots in South America flock to natural mineral beds regularly to feed on the clay and minerals available in order to detoxify their systems.

Share with your bird, heck, eat off the same plate. So go out there and buy some fresh vegetables, chop them up finely so your parrot can eat them and mix in some specially designed pellets. In the end it comes down to this - parrots must eat parrot food not human food.
