Stomach Pains Produce Huge Surprise!
Monday afternoon, stomach pains began making 39 year old April Barnum of Orange, California uncomfortable. Later on that night April decided the discomfort merited an emergency room visit. Doctors submitted Barnum to abdominal
X-rays. Those present were astounded with the results of those tests.
Barnum, who weighs in at 420 pounds, and her live in boyfriend Walter Scott Edwards were told that they must go immediately to UCI Medical Center for prenatal testing. The examination of the hefty Barnum concluded that April was carrying a seemingly normal nine month fetus. "Usually you can tell if you are pregnant, but with me I couldn't tell." Barnum pointed to her stomach. She is so large that no one-including her boy friend suspected a thing.
Seven years ago Barnum underwent gastric bypass surgery with dismal results. The weight stubbornly remained. The desire of the couple to have a child became a dream that had been given up when all of their previous attempts had failed.
Wednesday during a scheduled C-section, Barnum and Edwards became the unbelieving parents of a healthy seven pound, seven ounce baby boy. Barnum never experienced morning sickness or felt the baby kick. "If he kicked me I didn't feel it." claimed April. Doctors claim that Barnums girth and fat layer could have contributed to the lack of feeling of kicking and the turns of the small fetus. Little Walter Edwards entered the world at 2:15 p.m., February 28.
Barnum and Edwards live in a small home in Garden Grove, California and were not prepared for all of the life-style changes that a new son would bring to the couples life. Edwards had previously made the decision to purchase $30,000 worth of music equipment to open his own recording studio and the deal was to be finalized the day his first son was born. An incredulously astounded Edwards said, "You need lots of money for babies. I had no idea that this would happen." Walter Edwards worked frantically to try to get his money deadline extended.
