San Diego, otherwise known as "America's Finest City", is one of the destinations for a relaxing vacation or weekend getaway. It's a vibrant, growing metropolitan city that has a small-town feel. The city has so much to offer including various theme parks and dozens of shopping areas, however if you really want to experience San Diego, then I recommend staying downtown. Downtown San Diego has something to offer for everyone! Gaslamp Quarter
First stop is the Gaslamp Quarter which is the historic heart of downtown San Diego. The Gaslamp Quarter is comprised of several blocks of hotels, restaurants, eateries, shops, and an overall laid back atmosphere.
Just about every type of international cuisine can be found in the Gaslamp.
Fourth and Fifth Avenues have become a popular hang out in the Gaslamp where people can dine, meet for coffee, or find treasures in some of the unique shopping boutiques. Whether you're hanging out at the two-story Starbucks, having a meal at Croce's, or buying a new pair of shoes in the Puma store, you're sure to have a good time.
Horton Plaza
If you really like to shop, you'll want to check out Horton Plaza, the seven level shopping mall which houses department stores like Macy's and Nordstrom. The architecture of the mall is maze-like and quite interesting. Horton Plaza also has a movie theater if you want to catch the latest.
Seaport Village
Another great place to shop and see some pretty views is Seaport Village. Seaport Village is situated right in the middle of The Marriott and The Hilton and is a landmark for waterfront shopping and dining. You'll find 54 one-of-a-kind shops if you want a souvenir or two and if you get a little hungry there's four restaurants that have panoramic views of San Diego Bay.
Petco Park
During baseball season downtown gets pretty crowded as the new baseball stadium, Petco Park, is right in the heart of downtown. If you do catch a game in this stadium that holds 42,000 seats, you'll also catch breathtaking views of San Diego and the ocean.
