Ebbetts Pass has seen the whole of California history, from the days when it was an Indian trail up through the mid 1800's when it was an important route to the silver mining country and the trail the immigrants to the gold fields took in search of their fortune. The Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway of today will take you across the Sierra Nevada Mountains in a lot more comfort than those earlier travelers experienced, but there is still plenty of country to explore, plenty of places to camp, and plenty of history to learn.

Calaveras Big Trees State Park is the starting point on The Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway and make sure to stop in at the visitor's center before you set out to explore the big, and I do mean big trees. These stately giants have been here it seems like forever, actually about 2,000 years, and you will find their like no where else. There is a great 5-mile long hiking trail that will take you through the trees and back again. There are plenty of camp sites and picnic areas. For water activities such as fishing and swimming, you have your choice of the Stanislaus River or Beaver Creek.

Mosquito Lakes
You could easily spend two or more days here alone, there is so much to do. Hiking, fishing, swimming, and the most magnificent sunsets you have ever seen. One of the highlights along the California The Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway

Carson River. California
Take a day and go white water rafting, or just sit, have a picnic and soak up the scenery. Or throw your line in the water and catch your own dinner.

Grover Hot Springs State Park, California
You started in one state park and you end in another state park, a completely different kind of state park. Relax in the hot mineral spring pools and soak away the aches and pains. You can get in some more hiking and more beautiful scenery.
