When I think of an MVP, Michael Jordan is the first player that comes to my mind. Jordan has six rings and countless buzzer beating shots in playoff and championship games. After Mr. Jordan, Magic is the next player that I think of. Magic only has five rings he had to beat some Boston Celtic teams that the 2005-2007 Suns would have no shot at beating. Is it fair to compare Steve Nash to Jordan and Magic? Since 1980 there is only one two time MVP winner that does not have a ring and that is Karl Malone. Steve Nash is not even close to being the same caliber player as Malone was. One thing that puzzles me is that Malone won the award twice but he made it to the NBA Finals three times. Nash has won it twice and has never made it to the NBA Finals. Since 1980 only one player other than Nash has won the MVP award and not played in a NBA Final and that is Kevin Garnett. K.G. is a million times the player that Nash is.

When I look at Steve Nash as a player, offensively he is out of this world. Nash is shooting 88% from the foul line, 48% from the free throw line, 53% from the field he is averaging 19 points per game and 11.7 assists per game. There is not another point guard in the league that can come close to matching Nash in all those statistical categories. Don't get me wrong these numbers are great. I'm trying to remember the last time Nash got a triple double. I can't recall the last time Nash made the first, second or third all NBA defensive teams. If the Suns play the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs how will Steve Nash be able to guard Allen Iverson.

Why wasn't Dominique Wilkins thought of as being a better player than Jordan? So called NBA experts felt that Wilkins could easily average thirty but he will give up 30 or more on the other end of the court. Wilkins never won an MVP. For some reason Steve Nash has two MVP's and most people believe he could win a third this season. The only players to win the award three times in a row are Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and Larry Bird. Steve Nash does not belong with that group of players.

Takeaways
  • Steve Nash is the only two time MVP winner since 1980 not to lead his team to a NBA Final.
Did You Know?
Nash has never made the All NBA Defensive Team.

Bird could still rebound even though he was slow afoot he could also get some steals anyone remember the play that he did and there's a steal by bird to dj he lays it in. Oh yeah that was Bird. I'm not going to defened bird as a player becuase he was injured mostly when I was younger and then he retired. Anyways Nash is pathetic he may get those 18 points and 15 assists as well as seven to 8 turnovers is that really that impressive? Wouldn't you rather have a guy who gets 18 points 7 assists and no 0 turnovers. I'm going to say you're gone to go with the second option. I agree no one takes Nash seriously especially if the player is quicker or stronger then Nash which is almost every point guard in the league.

Are you telling me Larry Bird was a great defensive player? Wow, you must not have watched him play. He was all offense, he couldn't guard a prisoner locked inside his cell. He was one of the slowest players to EVER play in the NBA. He was rewarded with the MVP because he was the most VALUABLE player to his team, more so than any other player in the leauge during the regular season of those years. It is a regular season award, not playoffs. Nash may not get a triple double, but Jordan or Wilkins, Malone or Barkley ever put up 18 points and 15 assists in more than 20 games in a season? I don't think so. Nash has done it for three straight seasons. Just cause he doesn't dunk or show up on sportscenter highlights doensn't mean he is not the best player in the game.

You are an idiot!!Steve Nash is one of the greatest point guards to play this game. How can you downgrade Steve winning MVP after looking at what he had to over come last season. The Suns roster was young and without Amare. Sure i will agree Steve is not a Jordan or Wilkins but those are different posistions. I never saw Jordan or Wilkins have a 21 assist game. Obviously you never played the game of basketball. You need to get the facts straight before writing another article and critizing somebody and what they have accomplished.
