The day is Valentine's Day, 1900. The place is on a mountain, Hanging Rock, in Victoria, Australia. The event is a field trip of the girls and a few female teacher chaperones of an exclusive, private school for girls - Appleyard. While there, three students and a school teacher disappear. The movie then follows those that returned from the trip who all want to know what happened to those lost on the mountains. We are brought along with those characters in the investigation of what happened that day on Hanging Rock.

Much ado about nothing. I saw this film recommended by a member of an "elite" horror group. He said it was just terrific. I decided to add it to my "To See List". It took me two years to get a copy of it. It's not anything like what I expected. While watching it, I kept waiting for it to get exciting or some clue as to what happened to the girls and their teacher. I was expecting some kind of supernatural answer. Instead, I got zero, zip, nothing!

The story is so simple that I found it boring. It forces you to focus on the reason for the girls' disappearance and try to guess who or what has caused it all. Because of this, I expected an explanation or hint as to what happened beyond the obvious. We have to see the suspicions through the eyes of the characters. Personally, I think the characters are very dumb not to be able to see the one obvious, unmysterious reason: ROCKSLIDE! Girls get lost in the mountains with thousands of rocks and boulders - a mountain known for its vibrating and trembling - yet NOT one character thought of it! That's beyond logic! It'd be my first suspicion! But, oh no, not to the geniuses in this movie.

I have read the chapter. It's vague. But I think it's a rockslide. As I understand it, she originally intended it as a rockslide but the editors made her be vague about it to create more mystery. The movie never states the reason. I think the supernatural intention is open to discussion though. Even if supernatural, the rockslide could've been caused by supernatural force of nature. But I'm going with rockslide because one girl's found at the entrance to a caved in cavern.
