When people think of livening up the kitchen, they have visions of remodeling and installing a restaurant kitchen. For most of us, however, such a feat is not possible. We just don't have the money. But if you do want to give your kitchen a new look without spending a lot of cash, there are three things that you can do to give your kitchen décor a much needed boost. You will be surprised by how just three simple things can alter the look of your kitchen - and cost so little.1.Paint the walls. There are few things that brighten a room and give it a completely new character than painting the walls. The same is true of the kitchen. And with the latex paints that are out now, you can paint the walls knowing that grease spatters will easily come off. Buying the paint and doing it yourself is not very expensive, especially if you purchase paint that is on clearance or if you pay a visit to the discount home improvement store. Choose a color that you like, and get to work. Don't worry about "traditional" colors for kitchens; it's your kitchen and you can paint it any color that suits your fancy. Plus, you can get your family involved to help the work go faster and to create lasting quality memories.
2.Don't neglect the cabinets. You can paint your cabinets as well. Colored kitchen cabinets have become more popular, and you can enhance the look of your kitchen, and infuse a bright new touch of modernity, by painting your cabinets. Paint them a different color from the walls, however. Use a color wheel to determine a complementary color, or choose something that is two or three shades different from the wall color. This will introduce an invigorating contrast into your kitchen décor.
If your cabinets are of good wood, then it is probably better that you not paint them. However, by refinishing them or by adding a new coat of stain you can make them look almost new. The added luster and gleam of the wood will increase the good looks of your kitchen. Refinishing cabinets is not difficult, nor is it expensive. And when you walk in, you will be surprised at how different your kitchen looks if the only thing you attend to are the cabinets.
