Times have changed and so have weddings. If you're planning on having a wedding that is far from traditional, why would you want to choose a wedding cake? No one said a wedding had to include a wedding cake, after all. In fact, many couples are now choosing wedding cake alternatives. These alternatives can range from individual cakes to desserts that have nothing to do with cake at all. I hope you'll consider one of the following alternatives on your special day.

Wedding Cake Alternatives #1: Pie

Believe it or not, many couples are choosing this alternative and why not? Many people actually prefer pie, but have chose cake because it was traditional. Start a new tradition, at your wedding, and choose pie. If you're worried about pie not being as formal as a wedding cake, don't worry. You can buy a stand that will allow you to display several pies in a decorative manner. This is also a great option because you will be able to have as many different flavors as you like.

Wedding Cake Alternatives #2: Cupcakes

If you do want to stick with cake, but want a less traditional wedding, this is a great alternative. One of the reasons this alternative works so well is the fact that you can have several different flavors. When you have a regular wedding cake, you can have each tier be a different flavor, but you are limited to the amount of layers that your cake has. It's also easy to make cupcakes look elegant. Items like sugar flowers make regular cupcakes beautiful.

Wedding Cake Alternatives #3: Decorated Snack Cakes

Now you may think this alternative is a bit weird, but it's perfect for a completely non-traditional wedding. Plus this is an alternative that is very affordable. Simply buy all your favorite snack cakes and then decorate them. A cute way to decorate this alternative is to take white frosting, add food coloring to create the colors of your wedding, and then write your and your partner's names on the snack cakes and add sugar flowers. You will not believe how gorgeous a snack cake can be.

Sounds great Amy, Cheap too. I love the Cheesecake and the cookie part. I can imagine those large novelty cookies you get in the bakery with all the decorations. I also like the snack cake idea too. Great ideas.

I love cheesecake, so I could definitely go for that idea :) I remember seeing an article a few years ago where Krispy Kreme was making mock wedding cakes out of donuts and I thought that was a pretty interesting option.

Wow...I didn't realize there were so many options. I just had a regular cake. Now that sounds pretty boring!

My neice was married several years ago around Thanksgiving and had pumpkin pie instead of wedding cake. I can't really imagine having Ho Ho's and Twinkies as a wedding dessert unless the buffet included crustless PB&J, little bags of cheetos, and tiny boxes of milk (chocolate and white milk, of course!)
