Ann Coulter really stepped in it this past week, proving that when it comes to shooting from the hip, only Dick Cheney is a worse shot. Coulter, in her ill-advised comment about John Edwards, took dead aim and fired, but instead of hitting Harry Whittington in the face, Annie Jokely struck herself in the foot before sticking it in her mouth. But enough foot mataphors. Three should suffice, except for the true fetishist. The occasion on which Ann Coulter uttered the now infamous remarks was some CPAC conference, sort of the conservative version of a Star Trek convention. Surely most of you have read or heard the offending remarks by now, no need to repeat them once again. Let's just say that they were highly inflammatory towards the former Senator, Vice Presidential candidate and now Presidential hopeful Edwards and a certain minority group. A group that it is not advisable to offend in today's political climate. You'd think John Edwards had been discovered sending dirty emails to young boys or something, to have such a remark made about him.
The conference itself was kind of a "reality show" (which there's nothing real about most of) in which Rudy Guiliani, John McCain, and Mitt Romney vied to see who could out-pander the others to curry favor with the far right Kingmakers of the GOP. Rudy McRomney as they are collectively known now, have each changed many of the positions which they have held for years in an attempt to win the Republican nomination.
Rudy Guiliani is to the left of many Democrats on social issues, which didn't keep him from finishing 2nd in a straw poll taken at the conclusion of the conference. Good luck to a New Yorker who's anti gun control and pro gay rights getting votes in the South, which the GOP must win.
McCain is boot-licking the very elements of the Grand Old Party he formerly denounced in a desperate try to win the White House in what surely will be his last chance. Oops, I did it again. Another foot reference, I mean, but that's another article.
