The Master's Tournament is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious golf tournaments among the four major championships in men's professional golf.

Formerly called the "Augusta National Invitation Tournament" because it is held each year in Augusta National Golf Club, a private golf club in Augusta, Georgia, USA, the tournament started in 1934. It was only in 1939 that the tournament was named "The Master's tournament"

American golfers have dominated the Master's Tournament. In 72 years, 69 tournaments have been conducted. No tournament was conducted from 1943 up to 1945 because of World War II. American golfers won 53 times while other countries only won 16 times. Among the countries that emerged as champions in the tournament are: Spain winning 4 times, England, and South Africa each winning 3 times, Germany which won 2 times while Wales, Fiji, Canada, and Scotland won only once.

Among the golfers that frequently won were legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus who had 6 wins followed by Tiger woods and Arnold Palmer who had 4 wins each. Garnering 3 wins each are Jimmy Demaret, Sam Snead, Gary Player, Nick Faldo, while Horton Smith, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Tom Watson, Seve Ballesteros, Bernhard Langer, Ben Crenshaw, José María Olazábal, Phil Mickelson has 2 wins each.

The youngest winner of the tournament was Tiger Woods. He was 21 years 104 days when he won his first Master's tournament in 1997. The same year may also be dubbed as Tiger's year for the Master's tournament since he also won the widest margin of victory by 12 strokes. He also won the most under par second nine which was 16, another feat he accomplished was a Low middle 36 holes of 131. He repeated the same feat in 2005. The prestige for getting the highest score is shared between Sam Snead and Jack Burke who both got 289.

The Oldest winner was Jack Nicklaus in 1986 who was 46 years 82 days when he won his last Master's championship.

Jack Nicklaus continues to shine as he made the most cuts in the tournament totaling 27 in all. However the most consecutive cuts was made by Gary Player having 23.
