Your college dorm room would be your haven for the next few years in college, It is vital that you choose one that is practical, safe and would be extremely comfortable for you. Here is how you would be able to decide which dorm room is right for you.- First off, visit your college of choice first, see if they have on campus dorms or not. Also, you may check out if there are off-campus dorms which can also serve the purpose. Check out their facilities and compare which would be advantageous for you.
- Find out the rules and regulations of the dorm you have visited. See if they are either too relaxed or too strict for your comfort.
- You should decide what kind of dorm you want to get a room in. Do you want a dorm that is co-ed, single sex allows smoking or not, or if a dorm room allows visitors and stay-ins or not.
- If you want to meet new people and join many parties, "Frosh" dorms are your best choice.
- Check your budget. Ask your parents first if they would be the ones paying for your dorm fees.
- Choose a college dorm room that is near your classrooms and anywhere else you may want to frequently visit, like the college canteen or the library.
- See how many people would be staying in the room. Different college dorm rooms provide different number of occupancies. If you want ample time to be alone, choose one for a single occupancy, if you want to meet people and have new friends, finding a dorm room with 2 to four occupancy would be better for you.
- If you want a lot of space, some dorms offer suites or apartment type dorm rooms, which have a living room and a kitchen and separate rooms for its occupants.
- It would be better and very convenient if the dorm you choose have many amenities and extras. For example, if they have a laundry room, you will be spared of having to trek to the Laundromat to wash your clothes.
- Check out the history of the dorm. See if they have adequate security, no incidents of mugging or break-ins and if they are well lit and safe.
