There are several natural was to treat common everyday health issues using things you already have and use in your home. Using your own natural remedies vs. chemical remedies is beneficial to your health and convenient when you find yourself without a common first aid kit.

Here are some common household items that you can use to make your own natural first aid kit.

Honey

Honey is a great disinfectant to use on minor wounds and helps them healing occur. There is an enzyme in honey that naturally creates hydrogen peroxide and kills germs. Additionally, the amino acids naturally present in the honey speed along the healing process. The thick consistency will serve as a protective barrier over the cut keeping out other germs which can cause infection.

To use, heat some honey in the microwave for about twenty seconds and apply a small amount to a sterile gauze pad. Apply the gauze pad over the cut and reapply with clean gauze and honey until the cut heals.

Banana Peels

Banana peels are effective in soothing the effects of insect stings and bites. The skin on the inside of a banana peel is full of polysaccharides that lessen the itchy feeling that you get after a mosquito bite and the pain from bee and other bug stings.

To use rub the inside of a banana peel directly over the sting or bite and wait for sweet relief.

Banana peels are also good for removing splinters that have found their way under your skin and avoid the chance of infection. Most splinters that are hard to remove are naturally expelled from the body but the enzymes in a banana peel speed up that process.

Cut a small piece of banana peel and place it pulp side down over the splinter. Use surgical tape to hold the banana peel down and leave it on overnight. Remove the peel in the morning and the splinter will have been drawn towards the surface of your skin by the banana enzymes.

Aloe Vera

An aloe vera plant growing in your home can be one of the most useful natural first aid items you can keep around. The best part is aloe vera plants are extremely easy to grow and care for. Aloe vera plants have been used for a long time for its anti-inflammatory properties to heal cuts and burns.

The banana peels on splinters works great. I found out that use this fall when I stepped on a toothpick and was unable to get all of it removed from my foot. Talk about a painful 3 days waiting for it to push itself out. My grams slapped on a banana peel and 8 hours later it made its way out itself.
