Steven Grant, 37 has confessed to killing and dismembering his wife, Tara Grant, 34. Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel made a statement at a press conference today. Hackel said "He gave us a very lengthy confession, laying out what took place." Although at times he appeared upset, mostly "he was matter-of fact."

The specifics of how he killed his wife were not disclosed. Tara Lynn Grant, was the mother of their two young children and an executive for an international company. A medical examiner confirmed Monday morning that the cause of death was strangulation.

"We do understand there was a confrontation." Sheriff Hackel said.

Police say that Tara Grant was killed February 9, in the couple's Washington Township home. Their children, a 6 year old daughter and 4 year old son, slept as their mother was killed.

Five days after Tara Grant was killed, Steven Grant reported her missing. He became anxious as investigators, acting on a hunch, search Stony Creek Metropark, near the couples' house. After the police combed the land and found nothing, Grant retrieved his wife's torso from the field and placed in in his garage, according to police, as reported by Detroit Free Press.

Soon after, investigators found a Ziploc bag in a wooded area near the grant's home. The bag contained latex gloves, baggies, metal shavings and blood, said Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith. The bag was tied to Steven Grant by some metal shaving in the bag. Grant 's family has a tool and die shop in Mt. Clemens. The discovery of the bag, with the metal shavings, led police to the Grant family tool and die shop, where police say the dismemberment took place.

On Friday evening, detectives obtained a search warrant and conducted a search of the Grant's property.

After allowing the police into his house, Steven Grant left the premises and fled.

Police discovers a torso in the house's garage. they also found two guns and other weapons.
