How to Do the American Idol Slimdown

We all have seen it before. We watch the auditions, then the top 12. By the time we get to the top 5 or 6 we can see that some of the American Idols have dropped weight dramatically. So what's the secret? We know they get advice on their style, appearance and song choices. So who gives them advice on slimming down and what is their secret? A lot of people might speculate including myself it's just due to their heavy schedules. They don't have time to eat, sleep or do much of anything. They are always on the go and sometimes doing dance practicing for those God awful opening performances. I decided to do some research and see if there was something else that they were doing. Let's start with the past season winners and contestants.

Taylor Hicks said in Us Magazine that touring is what got himself in gear to eat healthy and lose weight. After he won American Idol he lost 20 more pounds. He removed fried and fatty foods from his diet which is what Carrie Underwood has also done. Katharine McPhee dropped 30 pounds after American Idol. She said that she still eats whatever she wants but in moderation. She pays attention to how she's feeling while she's eating and doesn't eat more when she feels full. She also walks on the treadmill for 45 minutes 4 to 5 times a week. Jennifer Hudson lost an amazing 60 pounds by jogging regularly and eliminating fried foods from her diet. Past season Winner Reuben Studdard shed 100 pounds being motivated by his family's history of diabetes. He attended a weight management center at Duke University. There, they were able to teach how to make healthy choices and stay fit.

Kelly Clarkson, past winner unfortunately seems to have gained some pounds. However, after her win she did shed some of that baby fat years back. Kelly says that instead of dieting, she eats whatever she wants but works out on the treadmill to counter act. Kimberley Locke lost 25 pounds but also appeared on the Vh1 show Celebrity Fit Club. After the show she started doing Jenny Craig and jumping rope to help speed up her metabolism.
