Forbidden Love
This piece was an unintended assignment of sorts, and a matter dear to my own heart for reasons I do not wish to disclose. It is simply what it is and whichever interpretation you chose to apply, I hope the poem works for you.
Forbidden Love
Grown men - women
as children sat in rooms
for preschool,
kindergarten.
Concentrated in twos
in corners and on
the remote reaches of playgrounds
away from teacher's careful eye:
"I'll show you mine,
if you show me yours."
Whispers turn to giggles
embarrassed,
awed, we touched.
Was that Forbidden Love?
In junior -
high school
same women - men
explored bodies their
own, others dancing,
pulsating to the beat,
sound --practice for the
motions of mating;
slinking to dark cars
whispers of "I'll show you mine,
if you show me yours."
turn pleasured moans,
undaunted, we touched.
Was that Forbidden Love?
In college and life men
- women almost adult
still mingling in lecture halls,
offices, workplace and bars,
grinding away against
each other in the daylight whispering
"I'll show you mine,
if you show me yours."
No longer embarrassed,
reverent,
ecstatic, we touched.
Was that forbidden love?
Time and age passing
grown women - men
talking, exploring the
mind with the body;
I would know the thoughts,
exalt in the joys,
desire the desires,
feel the pain, and understand
Your fears. Is that
Forbidden Love?
