McCartney, Beatles Persona Tarnished in Divorce Scandal

The Beatles were the last of the supergroups popular in the 1960s. This group of four working class lad pub musicians exploded into the world musical scene with an impact rarely matched elsewhere for any group. The Beatles catalog is still worth billions of dollars over four decades later. But as in many cases of musical celebrity gone wrong, Paul McCartney has a few special issues to deal with. The divorce of Lady McCartney from Sir Paul may efface the public gloss of even a Beatle's reputation.

Some may remember the years ago when Paul McCartney made headlines about marrying again. The rumors that the fantasy wedding was almost aborted were supported by later press accounts of an argument mere hours before the wedding ceremony. McCartney and Mills enjoyed a fling in the spotlight, but the end was near. The couple split in May last year after less than five years of marriage. Famous duets with Michael Jackson on the topic of race, such as "Ebony and Ivory", put the stamp on the issues of our times. But McCartney is the darling of the scandal rags recently. Once a stellar career like Sir Paul's would have covered over personal mishaps.
