Is your child ready for Kindergarten? How do you know? In this article, you will learn how to be sure your child is ready when the time comes. One important thing to remember is that there is no perfect way to determine readiness. The most important thing to remember is to always encourage your child's willingness to learn. If your child has the willingness to learn, everything else will fall into place much easier. Remember that if your child cannot do something on the list, do not panic. Just think of creative ways to help your child master the unlearned skill. Also, remember that children learn quickly, so something a child cannot do today, the child may all of a sudden be doing the next day. Pressuring a child is the wrong way to go about this. If you just provide a nurturing learning environment, the process will go smoother and faster than if you try to force lessons on your child. Forcing a lesson on a child creates children who are unwilling to learn and can even cause difficulties throughout school. If a child is confused, do not yell at the child or punish the child, even if it is something you know you have taught the child. This can cause frustration and failing to cooperate. This can also make the child feel as though he cannot do anything, which can lead to depression, anxiety, and even learning disorders. A confident child always performs better than a child who is constantly pushed too hard.

Here is a checklist to decide if your child is ready.

Thanks for the feedback skewedsolipsism. With kindergarten requirements changing, most of these tasks are what a child going into kindergarten should know. The standards have been raised significantly even in the past couple of years. That said, each school will be different as to what exactly will be required from their students.

I'm not sure I agree with the entire list taken as a whole- they should perhaps have a percentage of those down, but not all - many of those things are learned and reinforced in Kindergarten - though they should already be on the path towards achieving these things!

Thanks for this checklist. It will come in handy in the next two years as my daughter prepares for kindergarten.
