Is your Kindergartner ready to move on to the first grade? Does your child have all the essential skills to have a smooth transition into longer days and more work? In this article I will show you how to find out if your child is ready for the new challenge.

Below, you will see a checklist of skills your child should have learned in Kindergarten. If your child has mastered the skill, you can check it off. If your child still needs to work on the skill, take note of it.

Yes, Heather, many things have certainly changed. School is much more advanced at earlier ages now.

This is a great list.We were so shocked this year when my daughter went to first grade.Last year they barely did any math at all, this year they are adding three numbers together and doing algebra.Another big thing is learning the coins and being able to add them together.

Thanks Renee. Don't worry about the behavior and listening skills. They'll come in time. I have a stepson with ADD and behavorial issues and a daughter who use to struggle with listening and concentration skills. I am actually working on an article that give hints on strengthening concentration skills and another on behavior. Maybe you'll see them soon. :)

Concise list and good pointers. My 6 year old is ready. Now ask me if my 4 year old is ready for pre-k?? That's a topic for another day! Academically he's ready for Kindergarten but his behavior and listening skills are not up to par yet.
