Jesse Jackson: Bigot?

According to Title VII set forth in the Civil Rights Act of 1964, employers are not to discriminate when hiring based on race. So why is Jesse Jackson pushing so hard for more black coaches in the NFL and NCAA ranks? Recently, Jackson was quoted as saying, "When African-American coaches do well, we're delighted. Only the ignorant are surprised". No Jesse, only the ignorant still use the term "African-American". Confused? Let me quickly explain. When one refers to an individual as an "African-American", they are suggesting that Africa was their birthplace and then they moved over to the United States. I for one am of English descent, yet, I do not refer to "my people" as "English-Americans". The truth is, we are all Americans and we were all born in the same place.Back to the question I posed earlier: Why is Jesse Jackson pushing so hard for more black coaches in the NFL and NCAA ranks? According to the United States Census Bureau, the black population makes up only 12.1% of the U.S. population in 2006. So why is Jesse so upset? Both league numbers are fairly depicting what is going on in in the U.S. population. It is a fact too, that many college institutions as well as NFL organizations hire from within when looking for their next head coach. To curb that however, the NFL instituted the "Rooney Rule" which says that each team must interview a minority when looking for a new coach. What many leaders like Jackson do not realize is that the rule states that an interview must be given to a "minority". This does not always mean a black man. How many Latino or Asian head coaches do you see in the NFL or NCAA? Why isn't everyone crying out for more head coaching spots for those minorities?
